Hearing Baby's Heartbeat

Just a quick post to say Baby C is doing fine. I had an OB appointment with the Physican's Assistant that works in my OB's office on Monday and she hooked up the little ultrasound wand with speakers and I got to hear the baby's heartbeat. Going strong at 155 beats/minute! My next visual ultrasound will be January 27 where we will hopefully be able to tell the gender of the baby.

By the way...I LOVE the Physician Assistant that works in my OB's office (look at older posts regarding my initial experiences with doctors outside of my infertility doc's office)! She listened to me, gave me some great advice, and seemed genuinely happy to have her job. Still haven't actually met my OB...strange, huh? Just timing. I would have met him yesterday but he's off for the holidays. I'll meet him in January.

Baby's good...Mommy, not so much...

Okay, okay, I'll do another post. I've been away from posting for a while because I don't want to fill up the blog with negativity...and I haven't had much good to say since the last post. I am still SO sick! Another trip to the ER, another trip to the doctor to change medications (which seems to be helping a bit), and a ton of nausea, gagging, and heaving! So much fun!

That being said, there have been several positives since the last post. Thanksgiving week was in there and we drove to Phoenix to see Scott's family. It was really good to see them, and I had a better than usual week (which just meant I was able to be social for little spurts of the day and eat five bites of Thanksgiving dinner) for most of it (the drive home on Sunday was AWFUL!). For those that don't know, Scott's Mom had a stroke in July and is still not getting around - but is making progress! So, everyone pitched in and made a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner!

Another absolutely wonderful series of events since my last post is that our friends banded together to bring us dinner once a week. Lisa, Mark, and Dylan came the first week. It was so good to socialize a little and feel normal for a couple of hours! They brought a great pasta dish, salad, and garlic bread. We ate leftovers for days! It was fabulous!

Julie, Gerald, and Jilly came over the next week with meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and salad. She made so many mashed potatoes that we are still nibbling on them! She made both the meatloaf and mashed potatoes with "hidden" vegetables. I am going to have to get that book! Everything was delicious and Jilly was thoroughly entertaining!

Tonight Danielle, Craig, and Natty P come to visit with lasagna - YUM! And in a couple of days, Tracy, Jeff, Kaylie, and Ellie will visit! For those of you who never experienced Hyperemesis of Pregnancy, you have NO idea how WONDERFUL it has been to have everyone cook for us! This week is especially good timing since Scott just had knee surgery yesterday and is completely laid up. Fortunately, I'm able to get around a little better than usual, just don't look at the state of our house!

Thank you to everyone for your calls of concern and support!

Like Mommy, like baby...

Here are two more ultrasound pictures from yesterday. Look! Baby is sucking his thumb! Like Mommy, like baby! The one below shows a great shot of an adorable little foot!

Baby's First Graduation!

We graduated from our infertility clinic yesterday. The ceremony came complete with a certificate and plenty of shaking hands and hugs to go around.

Baby Corbett was very entertaining. Lots of leg kicking with some general thrashing around and moving all body parts. He (or she) is 3.71cm (1.5 inches) now. It's SO amazing that you can see SO much detail when they're SO little!

Now comes the fun part of finding a good OB doc. The first one I saw last week was COLD! She rushed through the whole five minutes she was with me and basically scolded me for waiting until I was 40 to get pregnant! Can you believe that? I immediately switched to the other doctor in that office when I heard how compassionate he was as I passed an exam room he was in. I haven't seen him yet, though. I had my "initial screening" yesterday afternoon with a nurse practitioner who was equally as cold. She didn't even introduce herself! Weird! I would LOVE to see the OB that I saw several years ago when I needed "woman plumbing" exploratory surgery, but, alas, he is part of a network that my insurance no longer covers. :( Our health care system is whack!

Baby's First Football

The last five days have been really hard. My morning sickness is a moving target. I never know how bad it's going to be or what will help to alleviate it. Something that helped yesterday no longer works today. I had maybe an hour yesterday of non-nausea. While upstairs yesterday, having a good cry and talking to my baby about how he's going to be the most appreciated baby on the planet and how he'll never have to tell anyone he was an accident (like most babies), I remembered something...

I remembered a football that I bought almost 4 years ago. I bought it when I was shopping for a baby shower - don't remember which one now, there have been so many. I bought several things for the baby shower and then I saw this football. I had to get it...for MY baby. If you know us at all, this makes PERFECT sense. This was after we'd spent a year trying to have a baby ourselves and we had just started with an infertility doctor. I was so optimistic that we would be pregnant soon that I bought our baby his (or her) first toy.

There were many times over the next four years that I stumbled across this little football. Sometimes I cried because we still weren't pregnant and didn't know if we would ever be. Sometimes I thought to myself, "It's time to throw this away." Sometimes I just put it back in the hopes that I would stumble across it again.

What had I done with it? I couldn't remember. Was it still in the closet? I jumped off my bed to search for it. It became one of my non-nauseous moments of yesterday. There it is! I hadn't gotten rid of it. Now I'm crying tears of joy because I have someone to give it to! And I've been carting it around with me ever since...

Baby's gettin' jiggy whid it...

Yesterday we had our 9 week ultrasound. The words on the picture are off to the right quite a bit, but you can make out limbs really well this week. And boy did he move them! Of course, the half a McDonald's shake I had on the way to the appointment might have had something to do with his activity level. :-) The kid was dancin' up a storm! Moving his arms and legs and head...havin' a good 'ol time in there! They really need to be able to capture video on ultrasounds! It was absolutely amazing to watch! And he's only just over 1 inch big!

How's Mommy doing? She is still really sick! And she made the mistake of seeing an OB this week (I've been seeing my infertility doc to this point) who changed her medication. Let's just suffice it to say that Mommy got her second trip to the emergency room just before the ultrasound appointment. Two bags of saline and some Zofran later and I was human again. I'm entering week 10 which I've been dreading because everything I've read says weeks 10-12 are the worst weeks. Wish me luck!

Our baby moved!

Okay, imagine the date of this post is November 6...

Our little peanut is growing! Today he (we're saying he until we know otherwise) moved his little head up and down several times. I wish ultrasounds could capture video!

I'm still really nauseous from sun up to bedtime, but as long as I'm sitting or lying down, and don't overdo any activity during the day (which even includes talking on the phone...sheesh!), I am managing to keep nourishment down. The Zofran is helping quite a bit. I am just living from ultrasound to ultrasound...they keep me going.

Ultrasound #2

On October 30, we had our second ultrasound. Corbett baby is doing great and looks like a peanut! I am still quite sick (from sun up to bedtime) and haven't been back to work yet, but at least I haven't needed any more trips to the ER (now where's some wood when I need it).

This brings baby to 7 weeks. How many more weeks of "morning" sickness?

One baby or two??

On October 23, we had our first ultrasound. This will tell us if there is one or two babies in there. I am SO sick!!! I was in the ER on October 21 because I couldn't keep anything down. They put in two liters of fluids and I still didn't have to pee! Now that's dehydrated! And, I'm starting to panic a little about the idea of twins...

So...looks like there's just one in there. The other little embryo looked like he tried his best, but just couldn't do it. He's still producing HCG at the moment so I've got twice the amount. Maybe that's why I'm so sick!

Baby Corbett is at 6 weeks! Go baby go!

Pregnancy Test

On the night of Tuesday, October 7th, I stopped off to pick up a pregnancy test to take with the first pee the next morning. Well, they only come in two packs...so on the way home I thought, "What the heck...I'll take one tonight and if it's negative, I'll take one again in the morning."

I didn't even get the cap back on the stick when...

Implantation day...

This is a blog for our Corbett Baby. Let me catch you up a bit...

On September 29, 2008, these two little blastocysts were implanted in me.
